27th August, 2020

We are all geared up to see the new brand of style the stars bring to the VMAs this year.

But first, here's a throwback of the most iconic VMAs looks. Award shows are a pure source of entertainment. There’s music, there are performances, there are winners and losers, and there are some memorable outfits. Sure, MTV’s Video Music Awards aren’t as grand as the academy awards or all out like the MET Gala, but it has been around for more than three decades and has had a lot of iconic moments. Right from Cher to Rihanna, our favorite celebs have all made some risque and some not-so-risque choices, and we’re here to count the ones we absolutely love.

1. Rose McGowan

We can’t miss out on what Rose McGowan wore back in 1998—or didn’t wear for that matter. The actress’ bare it all look went down so well that years later Amber Rose tried to recreate it on the same platform. We hear you @voorhaze!

2. Madonna

We might not remember that 1984 was when the first VMAs happened, but we will definitely remember Madonna’s Like A Virgin performance and her equally epic outfit. We agree with @CommonMadgeFan; it was one of the most iconic moments in pop culture history.

3. Shawn Mendes

We bet a whole lot of you still swoon at the mere sight of Shawn Mendes. We are not gonna complain; the sight of him in this suit was breathtaking. We agree with @vmas. He does look like a snack!

4. Lizzo

Lizzo’s sequined red dress complete with the feather boa and red lips would have made anyone look like they were trying too hard. But not our flute-playing goddess. You just can’t deny that @FrankieBleau here has got a point; she truly sizzled in this red “siren” gown.

5. Camila Cabello

You said it, @Rumor41425303. The Havana singer’s 2018 red carpet look proves that she could fit into the role of a princess in any live-action Disney movie. We bet if people from the Disney clan look at this photo, they will all agree with us.

6. Amber Rose

Amber Rose and Blac Chyna in 2015 taught us all a very valuable lesson. They told us about how we should embrace all the derogatory comments thrown our way and then keep shining in our own special way. You’re right, @TheGaloreMag; these looks really are important.

7. Nicki Minaj

We agree with you @TheShawnyboy. Nicki Minaj has had some very impressive VMA red carpet outfits, but this one has its own special place. The Anaconda singer walked the red carpet covered in playthings and bandages, carrying stuffed toys.

8. Beyonce

@bexonair, Queen B rules our hearts. Period. Bey made her 2016 appearance in a stunning avatar alongside her daughter Blue Ivy. What makes this more memorable is the fact that she walked the carpet with her Lemondae cast and the mothers of police brutality victims.

9. Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani’s 1998 get up for the VMAs is just as spellbinding today as it was back then. The bright blue hair, the bedazzled face, and the space age skirt all deserve a special place in the epic moments of the awards. Thank you, @JelloWaste, for this throwback picture.
