The role of detective Mills (eventually played masterfully by Brad Pitt) was first offered to Denzel Washington. He has since gone on record with regret at turning down the role due to the “evil” nature of the film. The movie—based on the concept of the seven deadly sins: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth—sees two detectives played by Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt hunt down a killer, who gruesomely murders those he believes are manifestations of these sins. Evil, yes. Epic, yes. Mind-blowing, YES! Pitt and Freeman had the kind of chemistry that cinema greatness is made of, but seeing Washington and Freeman reunite after Glory would have hit different.
