Last week in January 2021, a special edition of Lady Whistledown’s Society Paper was released on Netflix. The paper confirmed what we have been speculating for weeks: Bridgerton would officially return with a new season! We expect nothing less than scandals, gossip, and romance.

The filming of S2 of the period drama will begin in 2021. According to Chris Van Dusen, the executive producer, the production will be underway around the spring of 2021. Still, fans have to wait until 2022 for the new episodes to drop on Netflix.

S1 was shot over various locations in the UK. However, the team is apparently in conflict with another super-popular period drama due to spatial issues, which is why the makers of Bridgerton are apparently seeking permission to re-create the sets in Ascot.

The first season focused on Daphne Bridgerton and the Duke of Hastings. However, S2’s plot will focus on Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, Daphne’s older brother, after he is left at crosswords. In the new season, we will see Anthony looking for a suitable bride.

Bridgerton S1 introduced us to some of the main characters: the Bridgertons and the Featheringtons. As of now, the second season’s plot is still developing, and episodes are being written. If we go by Julia Quinn’s book series, we can expect several new characters.

It’s true that S2 will mostly focus on Anthony Bridgerton. So, what will become of the Duchess and Duke of Hastings? Fret not, for the show’s producers have reassured fans that Daphne and Simon will definitely have some major plot points in S2.

The new season will have new characters and new roles. This doesn’t mean we will be missing out on any of our favorite characters from the original cast. However, some of the characters may take a backstage as the new characters take center stage.

S2 will be tentatively based on the second book, The Viscount who Loved Me, from Julia Quinn’s series. And fans of the books are raging about Kate Sheffield. If the Netflix series is following the books, expect a passionate plot trajectory.

One of the best parts of Bridgerton on Netflix has been its diverse cast. While the casting for S2 is still a work in progress, rumors have it that Kate Sheffield’s character may be played by an actress of color.

Let’s face it, the success of Bridgerton was mostly due to the steamy plotlines and Rege-Jean Page. In a recent interview, Chris Van Dusen, the series creator, said that just like S1, “peak thirst” will drive S2. After all, what’s romance without sensuality?

At the end of S1, we were surprised to find that Lady Whistledown is none other than the docile Penelope Featherington. Bridgerton totally pulled a Gossip Girl on us! It would be fun to watch what misadventures Penelope gets herself into.

In S1, the legendary Julie Andrews was the voice behind the enigmatic Lady Whistledown. She is almost caught by the investigators hired by the Queen. So, what happens to Lady Whistledown? Until now, there has been no news about her or her Society Papers.

In S1, it is Eloise who tips off Lady Whistledown about the Queen’s men. But, she doesn’t know that Whistledown is none other than Penelope Featherington. We still don’t know if Elosie will find the truth in S2. We’ll have to wait and watch.

Julia Quinn’s period romance series has eight books, each book focusing on each Bridgerton sibling. So far, the Netflix series is following the basics of the books. So, with six Bridgerton siblings remaining, are we looking at an eight-season series… hmmm??
